Sole (Make 4 – 2 per shoe for extra support)

  1. Foundation: Ch 14.
  2. Round 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and next 11 ch. Work 5 sc in last ch. Working along opposite side of foundation chain: sc in next 11 ch, 4 sc in last ch. Sl st to first sc to join. (31 sts)
  3. Round 2: Ch 2 (does not count as st). Dc in same st, dc in next 11 sts, work 2 dc in each of the next 5 sts. Dc in next 11 sts, work 2 dc in each of the remaining 4 sts. Sl st to first dc. (40 sts)
  4. Round 3: Ch 2. Dc in same st, dc in next 11 sts. [2 dc in next st, dc in next st] 5 times. Dc in next 11 sts, [2 dc in next st, dc in next st] 4 times. Sl st to top of first dc. (49 sts)
  5. Assembly: Place 2 sole pieces together (wrong sides facing). Join yarn with a sl st through both layers and work sc in each st around to double the thickness. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Floral Lace Top Strap (Make 2)

The upper strap features joining floral starburst motifs created in a continuous strip.

  1. Center Flower Motif:
    • Ch 5, sl st to first ch to form a ring.
    • Round 1: Ch 1, 12 sc into ring. Sl st to first sc.
    • Round 2 (Petals): [Ch 3, skip 1 st, sc in next st] 6 times to make 6 chain spaces.
    • Round 3: In each ch-3 space work: (1 sc, 1 hdc, 2 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc). Sl st to join.
  2. Side Motifs (Work 1 on each side of central flower):
    • Attach yarn to the outer edge of a petal. Ch 5, sl st into same st to form a small ring.
    • Work 8 sc into ring, then make 4 shell petals: (1 sc, 2 dc, 1 sc) into alternating stitches, securing the base to the center flower.
    • Repeat for the opposite side to form a symmetrical 3-flower motif band.
  3. Scalloped Border:
    • Join yarn at the outer edge of the motif strip. Work a shell border along the top and bottom edges: skip 1 st, 5 dc in next st, skip 1 st, sc in next st. Repeat around, leaving toe-thong connection points open.

Assembly & Finishing

  1. Toe Thong: Attach yarn at the bottom center of the middle flower. Ch 6 (or length needed to reach the center of the sole between toe placement). Fasten off, leaving a tail. Thread tail down between 3rd and 4th stitches of sole front and secure tightly on the underside.
  2. Side Attachments: Position the lace strap evenly over the top of the sole. Sew side ends firmly to the outer edge of the sole using a tapestry needle.
  3. Fasten off all remaining tails securely inside the sole layers.
