Step 2: Hexagon Solid Base
- Rnd 3: Join color yarn to BLO of Rnd 1 behind the petals. [Ch 3 (counts as dc), 1 dc] in same st, 2 dc in each remaining BLO around. Join. (24 dc)
- Rnd 4: [Ch 3, 1 dc in next st, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next st for corner]. Repeat 6 times total to establish the hexagon shape. (36 dc + 6 ch-2 spaces)
- Rnd 5–7: Continue working in dc across each side, placing (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in each corner ch-2 space. Fasten off colored yarn.
Step 3: Popcorn & Bobble Frame
- Rnd 8 (Cream Yarn): Join Off-White yarn in any corner ch-2 space. [(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in corner, dc in BLO across to next corner]. Repeat around.

- Rnd 10: Work a solid dc round in BLO, placing (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in each corner ch-2 space to square off the final hexagon edge. Fasten off.
Step 4: Joining & Edging
- Assembly: Make desired number of motifs in alternating colors. Join hexagons using a Flat Zipper Slip Stitch or Back Loop Single Crochet Join using Off-White yarn to create raised join lines.
- Border: Work 2 rounds of sc around the entire blanket outer edge, placing 3 sc in each outer corner.
Pattern Notes & Specifications
- Skill Level: Intermediate / Advanced
- Gauge: 1 complete hexagon measures approximately 10–11 inches (25–28 cm) from point to point.
- Yarn: Light Worsted / DK weight yarn (100% Cotton or Acrylic) in 4 main shade colors (Dusty Rose, Muted Purple, Sage Green) and 1 contrasting neutral color (Cream/Off-White).
- Hook Size: 4.0 mm (US G/6).
- Special Stitches:
- Front Loop Only (FLO) / Back Loop Only (BLO): Working into only the front or back thread of the stitch V.
- Popcorn Stitch (popcorn): Work 5 dc into the indicated stitch. Drop the loop from hook, insert hook front-to-back through the first dc of the 5-dc group. Grab the dropped loop and pull it through. Chain 1 to secure (the securing chain does not count as a stitch).
- Front Post Double Crochet (FPdc): Yarn over, insert hook from front to back to front around the post of the indicated stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, [yarn over, pull through 2 loops] twice.
Part 1: The 3D Dahlia Core (Colored Yarn)
Begin with your chosen accent color (Dusty Rose, Purple, or Green).
Round 1 (Base Ring): Make a Magic Ring. Ch 1 (does not count as a st), work 12 sc into the ring. Pull tail tightly to close the center. Join with a sl st to the 1st sc. (12 sc)
Round 2 (Inner Petal Ring – FLO): Note: This round works exclusively in FLO to leave the back loops open for Round 4.
- Step 2A: Sl st into FLO of the first sc. [Ch 10. Sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, dc in next 6 chs, sc in last ch]. Sl st into FLO of the same sc.
- Step 2B: Sl st into FLO of the next sc. Repeat Step 2A across all 12 stitches.
- You will have 12 inner pointed petals. Fasten off yarn.
Round 3 (Outer 3D Layered Petals – Working behind Round 2):
- Step 3A: Attach the same color yarn to the unused BLO of any Round 1 stitch behind the inner petals.
- Step 3B: [Ch 14. Sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, dc in next 10 chs, sc in last ch]. Sl st into the same BLO.
- Step 3C: Sl st into the next unused BLO. Repeat Step 3B around.
- You now have 12 larger outer petals sitting directly behind the 12 inner petals, creating a fully layered 3D floral center. Fasten off.
Part 2: Transitioning Flower into Hexagon Base
Round 4 (Anchor Base Round – BLO): Working behind all petals, attach color yarn to the BLO of the Round 3 slip stitch connections.
- Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc). Work 1 dc in the same st.
- Work 2 dc in each remaining BLO around. Join with a sl st to the top of the initial ch-3. (24 dc)
