Classic Textured Crochet Throw Blanket Pattern
This elegant crochet throw is inspired by traditional Irish cable knit blankets. It features multiple textured panels worked side by side using front-post stitches, bobbles, crossed stitches, and simple lace sections. The blanket is worked in one piece from the bottom up, changing stitch patterns as you move across each panel. The result is a warm, sophisticated throw with a luxurious handmade appearance.
Although this is not the original designer’s pattern, these instructions recreate the same overall style and texture shown in the image while allowing you to customize the width and length to suit your needs.
Approximately 50 x 70 inches (127 x 178 cm)
Intermediate to Advanced
Chain 180 stitches (or any multiple that allows all panels to fit evenly).
Work 1 row of single crochet, placing 1 sc in each chain.
Arrange the blanket using these panels from left to right:
Continue each panel vertically until the blanket reaches your desired length.
Work alternating:
Row 1:
SC, DC, SC, DC across.
Row 2:
Place each stitch into the opposite stitch from the previous row.
Repeat until finished.
Foundation:
Work rows of FPdc and BPdc to create ribbing.
Every 8th row:
Cross two FPdc over the next two FPdc to create a simple cable twist.
Repeat the cable twist every eighth row.
Row 1:
Alternate FPdc and BPdc.
Rows 2–6:
Shift the post stitches gradually to create diagonal lines.
Continue shifting until diamonds appear.
Repeat the entire sequence.
Work vertical ribbing:
FPdc around every stitch for six rows.
Bobble Row:
Offset the bobbles every repeat so they appear staggered vertically.
Repeat Panel 3.
Row 1:
DC across.
Row 2:
FPdc around every other stitch.
Row 3:
FPdc around the opposite stitches.
Repeat Rows 2–3 to form the waffle texture.
Create six raised post stitches.
Every 10 rows:
Cross the outer three stitches over the center three stitches using FPdc.
Continue crossing every tenth row.
Repeat Panel 3.
Repeat Panel 1.
Round 1:
Work one round of single crochet evenly around the blanket.
Round 2:
Work (SC, ch 1, skip 1) around.
Round 3:

Repeat until the border measures about 2 inches wide.
