Crochet Baby Bootie Pattern (Two-Color Stripe)

This pattern is worked from the sole (bottom) up. This uses US crochet terminology.

I. Materials & Tools

• Yarn: DK or Worsted Weight yarn in two colors (Color A: Green/Yellow; Color B: Yellow/Green).
• Hook: Size appropriate for your yarn (e.g., 3.5mm or 4.0mm).
• Notions: Scissors, yarn needle, and a stitch marker.

II. The Sole (Bottom)

The sole is worked in oval rounds to create a flat base. Use Color A.

1. Foundation Chain: Chain 10 (or adjust for size).
2. Round 1: Half Double Crochet (HDC) in the 3rd chain from the hook. HDC in the next 6 chains. Work 5 HDC into the last chain (this turns the corner). Continue working HDC along the other side of the chain (7 HDC). Work 4 HDC into the last stitch. Slip Stitch (SL ST) to join to the first HDC. (Total stitches: 24)
3. Round 2: Chain 2 (counts as HDC). HDC in the same stitch. HDC in the next 7 stitches. Work 2 HDC in the next 5 stitches (increases across the toe). HDC in the next 7 stitches. Work 2 HDC in the last 4 stitches. Join with SL ST. (Total stitches: 34)
4. Round 3: Chain 1. Single Crochet (SC) in the Back Loop Only (BLO) around the entire round. Join with SL ST. (This creates the defining ridge where the side walls begin).

III. The Body (Stripe Section)

Now we work the body straight up, changing colors every round to create the stripes.

1. Round 4 (Color Change): Attach Color B. Chain 1. Work Single Crochet (SC) in every stitch around (working through both loops now). Join with SL ST.
2. Round 5 (Color Change): Attach Color A. Chain 1. SC in every stitch around. Join with SL ST.
3. Rounds 6 – 8: Continue alternating Color B and Color A every round. The body of the shoe should be vertical now.

IV. Shaping the Toe (The Top Arch)

This creates the indentation at the front of the foot.

1. Round 9 (Color A): Work SC across the back and side of the bootie. Stop when you reach the center front (the toe section).
2. Decreases: Over the center 8 stitches (the toe), work 4 SC Decreases (SC2tog). Continue SC to the end of the round. Join with SL ST.
3. Round 10 (Color B): SC around the entire round. Decrease 3 to 4 stitches evenly across the center toe section again. Join with SL ST.
4. Round 11 (Cuff): Work one final round of SC or Slip Stitch around the top edge to finish the opening.

V. Finishing & The Bow

1. Fasten Off: Fasten off and weave in all yarn tails carefully.
2. The Bow:
   • Chain 5. SC in the 2nd chain from the hook and across (4 SC). Chain 1. Turn.
   • Work 3 to 5 rows of SC.
   • Tie the center of the small rectangle tightly with a contrasting yarn piece to form a bow shape.
   • Sew the finished bow securely onto the front of the bootie.
