Cat Motif Crochet Pattern (Scarf)

Materials:

• Fine cotton yarn or lace-weight yarn (multi-colored gradient looks beautiful)
• 2.0–2.5 mm crochet hook
• Scissors
• Yarn needle

Step 1 – Start the Center Circle

1. Chain 5, join with a slip stitch to form a ring.
2. Round 1: Chain 3 (counts as 1 dc), work 11 double crochets (dc) into the ring. Join with a slip stitch. (12 stitches total)

Step 2 – Second Round (Forming the Cat Face Base)

1. Chain 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in same stitch, then 2 dc in each stitch around.
2. Join with slip stitch to the top of the first chain 3. (24 stitches total)

Step 3 – Round 3 (Shape the Ears and Sides)

You’ll now form the little cat ears and side loops:

1. Chain 3, skip 1 stitch, slip stitch in next. Repeat around to make small decorative loops (total 6 loops).
2. For each ear:
   • In one loop, work ch 3, 2 dc, ch 3, sl st in same loop (that forms one ear).
   • Skip one loop and make the second ear the same way.
   • Continue slip stitching around to finish the head shape.

Step 4 – Make Whiskers (optional detail)

In the side loops near the ears, chain 5, sl st in same stitch, repeat once more on each side to make whisker loops.

Step 5 – Join the Cat Motifs

• Crochet multiple cat faces in your chosen colors.
• Join motifs by slip stitching through corner loops (as shown in the diagram on the right).
• For the scarf, connect cats in rows of 3–4 across and 5–6 down, depending on desired length.

Step 6 – Finishing Touches

• Weave in all yarn ends neatly with a needle.
• Steam block or lightly press the motifs to open up the lace pattern.

Optional Tip

Use ombre or gradient yarn to get that beautiful color transition effect (like the photo). It gives the scarf depth and a soft artistic look.
